"We're being overtaxed, and not enough people are sticking around to foot that bill," owner Kyle Hallberg said. "And if we don't see changes here in the south suburbs soon, there's gonna be more of that coming."

Another issue, of course not, mentioned in the article, but prevalent everywhere in the Chicago suburbs is: Demographics change. Chicago Heights is now 40% black and 36% hispanic. The unfortunate reality is that this is an Italian beef stand with Italian staples and other grill offerings. This type of food is unpopular with the new residents of the surrounding area. A quick look on Google Maps shows nearly a dozen hispanic restaurants within several blocks of Enzo’s: Lupita’s, Los Compadres, Taqueria El Country, Los Portales, Riko Burrito and Perros Brothers, Los Primos, Taqueria Hacienda and La Fondita, and others. About 70% of a tax bill goes to public schools. Connect the dots. The teacher’s unions have a lien on your real estate.

Of course you got taxed down to your socks, Enzo’s. The locals on a guaranteed income and the lifelong welfare gravy train aren’t going to pay any taxes. As usual the struggling people have to kitty up for those that don’t even try to. Nor do they care.
The taxes are one reason but the main reason not mentioned in the article is that the new local residents prefer fried fish and taqueria fare to Italian staples like pepper and egg and pasta. I bet business has been going down for a generation and the new residents don’t eat Italian food.
True, but paying property taxes, payroll taxes, municipal taxes ( water, garbage collection, etc. ) certainly doesn’t help matters. Do the plethora of Mexican restaurants pay at the same rate, or do they, like many “ minority owned “ businesses get a break?
Mexican places are paying real estate taxes which baked into the rent. But they’re not paying much other taxes, no payroll taxes and only a little sales tax. Lots of cash only transactions, as Freddy mentions above, and cash only to illegal immigrants in the kitchen. The owner tells the IRS she works alone and makes each and every tamale from scratch. Along these lines, I saw an article today that Kwame just threatened the Boone County Board for trying to disproportionately regulate, and therefore discriminate, against Mexican style rodeos when compared to regular style rodeos. Kwame wrote the Boone… Read more »

Shhhhhh….you don’t want to anger King Pritzker. Just yesterday he was telling me all is well.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
