Commentary: The consent decree was designed to prevent disasters such as the Dexter Reed shooting – Chicago Tribune*

David Greising, of the Better Government Association: "But the court-appointed monitor, Maggie Hickey, in a report last November found that the CPD had complied with only 6 percent of its requirements in the 236-page decree — five years after implementation began. The department is so far behind that the deadline for full compliance has been extended."

So same family member who shot Dexter Reed during “family dispute” now hopes to collect very large cash-settlement from City of Chicago, for reason Dexter himself shooting at police 17 times? After all, Dexter started it, not CPD cops. 12 casings found in his car, but 17 fired total, not by police. Dexter must have gotten out of his car, still shooting. Curious that this information is not noted in Trib articles. Far past due for Mayor Johnson to relinquish his personal detail of 150 CPD cops. Time Mayor experience Chicago same as his constituents. Ditto for other Chicago politicians… Read more »

Read an article in the Trib that made me ill. The paper portrayed this criminal as a victim who was trying to overcome challenges after being shot in 2021 in a family dispute. (Family dispute? Most families refrain from armed combat.) Dexter committed suicide by cop. Surrounded by armed officers, he lit the fuse and his family is now standing in line to collect the multi-million dollar payout. And the media again is taking on the roll of “useful idiots,” to aid the endeavor. Citizens of Chicago are fortunate that cops continue to show up for their shifts. Keep vilifying… Read more »

The Consent Decree’s intentions were to allow drive-by shooting to go unimpeded for the Chosen class.

Greising has lost his mind. The consent decree should have stopped cops from returning fire on a guy who started shooting at them?

So I guess under the consent degree if an officer is shot at they should wait for a consent degree monitor, a consent degree appointed attorney, a stenographer and two independent witnesses to advise the officer about what to do that fits into the consent degree guidelines. Here’s another way to do things, don’t get involved, let the criminals run loose, no traffic enforcement, no arrests and therefore no consent degree issues will arise.

Defund the court appointed monitor! Another Dem makework job, like ALL Dem jobs.
The courts have a lot of nerve letting go almost every thug who comes through their courtrooms, then telling the police how to do their job!

What’s the old line, those who can police, do, those who can’t, lawyer. Sounds about right.

Would the Consent Decree have stopped Dexter Reed from shooting 17 rounds at police?

Criminals are not covered by the consent degree so they can do anything they want without any repercussions, especially in Crook County.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
