You can’t fix stupid in a hurry even though it’s not their fault. If someone is ready for college, by all means make it possible for her. Public schools have done no favors for students by promoting those not at grade level. Continuing the charade in colleges will simply degrade the colleges toward the standing of urban K-12s. Perhaps some group besides education prof’s can figure out how to raise ALL boats, but (risking mixing metaphors) don’t throw the babies out with the bilge.
Pity the children who attend CPS – they are no more than pawns of the CTU.

Chicago has a problem regarding the academic failure of black students in the public school classrooms. One might very well assume that these individuals will face significant employment hurdles in their future so is this action designed to provide classroom space to try and correct what the public school systems have failed at? Remedial classes are becoming the norm at Illinois campuses’ these days as it is and with declining enrollment perhaps we are now observing the future of Illinois higher learning facilities that will be focused on educating the undereducated Chicago minority students.
