Mayor Johnson nixes plan to remove George Washington statue outside his City Hall office – Chicago Sun-Times

A statue of George Washington, by the elevators on the fifth floor of Chicago City Hall, near the mayor's office.“We’re just freshening up the space. Making it a bit more current. There’s a lot of Chicago icons who would be deserving of statues as well. We should be considering that also — Ida B. Wells, DuSable, Harold Washington," mayoral spokesman Ronnie Reece said when the removal was announced. Reese could not be reached for comment on the reversal.

I think “Ronnie” needs more to do, besides “Freshening up the space”. Good God. With all the issues in this City, THIS is what they are spending time on?! What a waste.

I’m surprised he didn’t replace the statue with George Floyd or even a gigantic purple drank! LOL

It should be moved from the fifth floor, the public is not allowed up there, put it somewhere the public can see it. Just watched a documentary on the revolutionary war and he deserves a statue for what he did. Otherwise we’d all have bad teeth, be eating tasteless food and drinking tea and warm beer in the afternoon.

Because a big, bronze statue of George Floyd’s head would send a much more positive and uplifting message to everyone as opposed to George Washington.

I agree that a fine bronze statue of good ol
Harold modeled after his famous painting
“ Mirth & Girth”.

The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history. G.O
