"CPS does not ask for families' immigration status. CPS will not coordinate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE," Chicago Public Schools Chief Executive Officer Pedro Martinez said. "CPS will not allow — will not allow — ICE agents to access CPS facilities unless they provide a criminal judicial warrant signed by a federal judge." Martinez said teachers are being trained on how to handle ICE agents, and what to do if the parent of a student has been detained.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. This one is easy. DOJ should subpoena the Archdiocese for all of their pedophile investigations which are active or have occurred during the Cardinal’s reign. He’s the guy who said a few years ago that the biggest problem facing the Catholic Church was climate change, not his fellow priests preying on young boys. I’d like to see the Venn Diagram of priests he’s had to his mansion for dinner and pedophile priests. Another godless fake religious man disregarding the tragedies fallen upon the victims of illegal aliens.
Perhaps Pedro and the Cardinal should consider the last deaths associated with illegal immigration in Illinois. Two U of I students (21 and 20 years old) were killed in Urbana when a previously deported illegal immigration plowed into their vehicle at a red light. The perpetrator fled the scene and was apprehended in Texas on a bus headed for Mexico. Maybe they could explain their position to the parents of this tragedy.
If Cupich and other religious leaders really cared about the poor, they’d be funding schools and hospitals in these countries to help improve their lives and the lives of their countrymen. But of course, there’s no financial benefit for Catholic Charities, Lutheran Social Services or the “migrants” if they did that.
This is just one of many reasons I am no longer a devout mass-attending Catholic.
These so called leaders need to take a breath. ICE is coming for the criminals. Are you not listening? Good God. These people will Anything to make cleaning up the mess Biden left seem like a problem just to scare people and cause untrue bad press about the agency, the officers and Trump. Regardless – CPS get ready, the Criminals are getting arrested and deported as we type here….not that it will impact you at all. I hope these people do not turn CPS into some sort of sanctuary for illegals…what a mess.
Cupich might want to get ready for a whole slew of illegals showing up- and staying. The church might be able to provide sanctuary, the taxpayer funded schools cannot, nor should they. Not their purpose or business.
Cupich can talk about compassionate help to those who need it, but opposing government force is a terrible position. It’s more lefty political signalling, sucking up to Democrat leaders who actually hate him and his church but still want to use naive lefty Cupich for their own purposes. I miss Cardinal George.
Like the Episcopalian bishop in DC, Cupich does not speak for everyone in the Church and needs to stop disguising his lack of respect for people that don’t agree with him under a religious cloak.
He did the same thing during Covid when he told his priests to not grant religious exemptions for the vaxx.
