“Our goal is not to sell them for the highest dollar amount, really. It’s to find the most responsible, compatible use,” said Stephen Stults, director of real estate for CPS. “What we get paid, of course, helps with our budget challenges. But they’ve been sitting there long enough, and we need to do everything we can to try to get them repurposed.” CPS spends between $100,000 and $150,000 to maintain and secure each vacant school per year.

Chicago Public Schools is selling old school buildings with a specific deed provision that forbids them from being used as a school by a private buyer. They say they want the buildings used in a responsible way- the best use for a school building is to use it as a school. It sounds like the teachers union is dictating the terms of CPS’s business dealings to prevent parents from having any option to schooling their children.

There are several YouTube channels that explore abandoned properties and communities that have turned into ‘urban praire’. Unsurprisingly, the majority are in IL. Democrats refuse to acknowledge their destruction.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.

It sure seems like an omen for the city.
