Suburban Chicago house tax plan would choke lagging growth – Illinois Policy

The bill stalled when it was sent back to the Illinois House but had it passed, median-priced homes in DuPage County would carry an additional $1,335 fee when an owner decided to sell. Owners in McHenry County would face an extra $1,140 tax.

I grew up in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. The house (1600 sq. ft.) I grew up in in Fox River Grove has a real estate tax bill of about $6300.00. I now live in South Florida in a home about twice the size of the one I grew up in, valued at four times the home I grew up in and the real estate taxes are about $7400.00. And politicians wonder why those with $$$ are leaving Illinois?

The tax should be higher. That way all the people trying to dine and dash on Illinois debt can help pay on their way out. Make it 8 or 9% when you sell if you don’t buy an equal or greater value home elsewhere in Illinois. Sure people that leave will be upset but they are no longer a voter and need to help pay the bills.

Quit overtaxing suburbs to support Chicago. Hold Chicago and state lawmakers for their failures. They all need to cut spending on identity policies and illegals.

Isn’t Illinois Fun?

Is there a contest to see how many ways you can tax a house? Taxes on the income used to by the house, annual property taxes, taxes on the furnishings, on replacing the furnishings, on any addition constructed. What’s next, a tax in case you might sell?
