More than 2-in-5 Chicago Public Schools teachers missed 10 or more school days in the 2024-2025 school year; This marks the lowest teacher attendance rate recorded in CPS in nearly a decade. Similarly, just 2-in-5 Chicago students were proficient in reading that same school year, and even fewer were proficient in math.
Someone should run the numbers on teachers taking sick days versus what’s in their sick bank accrual at that time. CPS teachers can accrue 244 sick days at a rate of 10-12 days/yr, depending on experience.Are teachers who reached their max sick day accrual and are basically in use-it-or-lose-it situation more apt to use a sick day? It could be quite telling to see how many sick days a teacher takes each year of their career before and after they hit the accrual max. The stats look bad. Quick, change the contract to provide that fewer absences than 15 days aren’t recorded. Problem solved.
But then, the students don’t show up, why should the teachers?

These chronically absent teachers should be fired. CPS is over staffed and still using and staffing underutilized schools. CPS is so bad, they had to lower standards. Maybe CTU and CPS should be working on improving education instead of indoctrination.

What? Was someone under the impression that they were actually working? Has anyone actually seen what passes for instruction in the CPS? It’s not teaching. At best, it’s paint by numbers.

Got to love Stacey Gates, she done a great job for the teachers, not so good for the students. But in the education system as set up today, education does not matter.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
