When he was in the Senate, Harry Truman, a scrupulously ethical man, proposed a simple ethics test for public officials. It asked them only to list their net worth before coming to Washington, and to list their current net worth. The poor guy was nearly run out of town. Nothing has changed.

Both parties will fight any laws to keep them from becoming rich by insider trading and taking money from corporations to vote in their favor. I would love a list of political donations to politicians, directly or funneled through PACs.. would be interesting to see how much stock politicians have invested in pharmaceutical and heath care companies.
