Indeed, Mayor Brandon Johnson is now claiming that unless he gets his corporate head tax, he will go back to demanding property tax hikes. "It’s clear here. We’re either going to cut services and lay people off and raise property taxes, or we’re going to make sure that those with means who can actually afford it put more skin in the game. That’s the choice that the people of Chicago have right now," he exclaimed last week.

In his recent quotes, why does BJ lump cutting services with raising property taxes? The City of Chicago budget is so bloated that I would think a 10 percent cut would eliminate any perceived need to raise property taxes. I would also think that if BJ would implement a relative few of the many cost-cutting recommendations in recent years, such as those from E and Y, he could achieve a 10 percent cut in bloat.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

Johnson can’t see beyond the boundaries of the plantation in his mind.
note: not a 10 percent cut in services; a 10 percent cut in bloat
