Paul Vallas: The CTU’s power grab is hurting Chicago’s other unions – Chicago Tribune*

With signage listing the contract wins for the Chicago Teachers Union, CTU President Stacy Davis Gates announces that union members overwhelmingly voted to approve a contract with Chicago Public Schools on April 14, 2025. (Antonio Perez/Chicago Tribune)"Organized labor once built Chicago’s middle class on shared sacrifice and mutual respect. The CTU has traded both for political dominance."

I hoped that Paul Vallas would’ve undertaken something other than being a glorified complainer. Too bad for Chicago and Illinois he wasn’t elected mayor. It’s clear that Chicago couldn’t afford to sink lower as it did.

Public unions should be illegal, period.
There’s not 2 sides it’s politicians and the people voting for them, that’s not fair representation for the rest of the people in the state.

Okay, then. But, should I suppose you also are happy with the Trump family’s truly numerous personal profit schemes at the expense of the purchasers’ ability to access and influence his public policy decisions? It seems to me you can’t rail at the first while supporting the second and being told the Trumps have profited by some three billion dollars since the start of his second term.

You can’t rail at one while supporting the other? Isn’t that what you just did and do regularly?

where is your evidence that the president is bought off by investors in his sons businesses?
Show us documents, not your useless hyperbole

Three billion dollars of increased family wealth given to them in less than one year as Trumpty Dumpty is our President and all done without quid pro quo? What world are you living in? It’s certainly not the one where the never altruistic DJT is in charge of the rules of the political games being played. His world is always where its always heads he wins and tails you lose.

Not sure what Trump has to do with the CTU. But when one cannot defend the theft by the CTU, try to distract from the conversation going on.

There should not be any pensions for government employees.

Those public employees who don’t get SS should get something equivalent. The problem is that most of these Illinois/Cook County/Chicago, etc. pensions aren’t equivalent but are considerably larger than SS would be, resulting in a huge burden on the taxpayer.

Of course, this system is grossly unfair to the taxpayer and exists because of corrupt Illinois politicians and union leaders.

I can’t be happy or unhappy at, “Trumps personal profit schemes”, if I don’t know what they are?

The CTU is a Marxist organization committed to the benefit of teachers and, by proxy, .. the CTU. Students and their taxpaying parents aren’t even on their radar.
