Much of the routine trade and investment between China and America is entirely appropriate and in America’s interest. But inserting the Chinese Communist Party into America’s pay-to-play system and its economic development strategy isn’t just crossing a line. It’s a leap into an abyss of stupidity.

In the spirit of the season how about a new Christmas tree recycling fee (tax)? Better yet a toy recycling charge or maybe even a new safety fee on bicycle purchases. Johnson has oodles of ways to tax to fund his constituents spending demands…he just needs the creativity his limited brain power lacks.

Throughout the year, Chicago could thrive if it taxes all sorts of holiday activity: Require a home visit/inspection plus an expensive license to distribute government-approved healthy treats (mostly blanched vegetables) for Hallowe’en; implement an interdisciplinary task force to evaluate Easter egg coloring practices, including taxes to fund proper color schemes that do not exclude non-majority or colorblind populations; assess a charcoal/propane tax to fund fire prevention awareness/arson training to leverage summer barbecue season into a real source of empowerment/ cash for the city; on St Patrick’s Day, obviously impose a $10/oz. alcohol tax (easiest… Read more »
I suspect places like Jewel have over 500 employee’s so who do you think will be actually paying the millions of dollars? Chicago can’t keep subsidizing everything, (300 MILLION for garbage) people need to pay the costs for basic services.
If you he head tax happens I will advise 3 largest clients in the area to move south in the state or leave the state. Total work force would be 2355. Earlier discussion 1 would stay the other 2 have already started search for new home. 1 is industry the other 2 office to light mfg.
