Companies are eyeing areas like downstate Illinois because land is cheaper. The locations are even better if energy sources are more readily available. The data center boom has generated concern in some communities about the high water requirements for cooling and the loss of farmland in rural communities.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
Data centers should be required to recycle water to cool their equipment. No company should be allowed to waste water.
