Gas prices drop, but taxes make Illinois pricier than Midwest neighbors – Center Square

Even with the price drop, Illinois remains the most expensive state in the Midwest for motor fuel.

Isn’t Illinois Fun?

Prediction: Pritzker amends the gas tax law to increase the tax by the amount of market price drop each week.

Thankfully, since leaving Chicago after living there for 51yrs, I’m in a nice rural section of Illinois (ok let the insults flow) but the Wisconsin border is close, real close, and we get gas 95% of the time there. Yesterday, $2.35.9 a gallon, short distance away in Illinois $260.9. Usually $0.25-$.090 a gallon difference.

Over the course of your normal yearly driving how much are you saving in a year—maybe $200-$400 dollars? Does that strike you as something so praiseworthy as to be a motivator to move to the boonies? Maybe so for some, but to me it’s an inconsequential improvement to one’s life and certainly a weak motivator to move away from somewhere else. I’m really just flabbergasted as to why you seem to suggest otherwise. There may well be other motivators you’ve failed to mention, but you’re somehow promoting this one as your apparent one of greater interest. Congratulation on fattening your… Read more »

Actually my wife is very happy we moved out of Chicago, it was a decision made by both of us for a variety of reasons. If you think the only reason we moved because gas was cheaper, as you imply, well let’s just consider that statement by you as really idiotic. You seem to obsess on the savings of several hundred dollars or more we save without any effort, so may I suggest that while you are out shopping and find an item you wish to purchase “on sale” that you demand to pay the full price so it’s not… Read more »

You’re willing to “fight to the death” over this silly topic? Lighten up. I didn’t begin to think that saving a dollar a day in gas costs was your primary reason for moving. What surprised me is that you chose to highlight that feature over all the other reasons you moved implying it has a priority in your life. You didn’t choose to give even one other happiness factor you’ve achieved by moving. That seems strange! Now, you don’t know me, and I don’t know you. I didn’t humiliate you nor even seriously criticize you, yet you want to assume… Read more »

In case you didn’t notice the articles main topic is about gas prices I commented on that main topic, so why should I be going into depth about whatever reasons caused us to move. I commented on gas prices but you chose to insult my wife and mock me for actually saving a few dollars without any effort. I would call that humiliating me. Citing inconsequential benefits and actually saying cheap gas prices were a motivator for moving blows your defense of stupid remarks out of the water. Not gonna fight to the death about this but your “smarty pant”… Read more »

Spoken by someone on a big fat public pension. Working people have to save every penny for retirement in another state.

Reap is anagram for rape. And sow is a pig. Gotta be careful wit’ yo wit.

Highest taxes and only mediocre roads. Who is getting all of this money?

PIGSTER just stole MILLIONS from road taxes and gave it to the public transportation criminals.

It was a $1B of gas tax monies from the road and bridge ‘lock box’ intended primarily for downstate. The ‘lock box’ has over $3B in it that has not been distributed to towns and counties as the law intended. Democrats are using the interest off the fund for their ‘woke spending’ priorities. Gas taxes, and the ‘lock box’ for those monies to be only used for roads and bridges, has been totally perverted by Pritzker and the Democrats into a slush fund for their spending. I suspect the same will happen to the increased fees on the tollway. The… Read more »
