Chicago mayor defends ICE order, calls for progressive revenue from state taxpayers – Center Square

Asked about a proposed reboot of Bring Chicago Home, the real estate transfer tax defeated by voters in 2024, Mayor Brandon Johnson said he was looking at all forms of progressive revenue, even after several ballot measures failed. “In the meantime, we’re going to be focused in on our efforts in Springfield to draw more progressive revenue so that we can continue to make the necessary investments to build safe and affordable communities,” he said.

Ok. Mayor Cliff Notes. Here’s municipal financial management 101, or how to manage an operating entity. It’s nice to have adolescent dreams about the things you would do with Other People’s Money. However, a competent municipal manager would realize that his socialist utopia has failed as these ‘progressive’ schemes always do. It’s over, Mayor Notes. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if he instead said “Due to the lack of revenue needed to build safe and affordable communities, and based on the unconscionable waste seen in Minnesota, we are going back and reviewing all funding to find waste and fraud in our budgets, rather than take even more of your money for more fraud and waste.” But he didn’t.
