Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Purdue’s engineering school was founded to educate the children of the poor and lower class, thus provide upward mobility for these youngsters. It is shameful that our tax funds are schooling wealthy amoral Chinese foreigners that hate us. I was visiting Atlanta two months ago and observed Chinese students driving fancy cars, well dressed and flaunting expensive Apple watches. They were all jabbering in their native tongues as they were unable to assimilate. Before 1973 the completion of ALL graduate studies required reading knowledge of two western European languages. This condition should be reinstated as it would force the foreigners… Read more »
UIUC fiscal problems are a direct result of a massive decrease in state funding.
The State of Illinois is fiscal black hole because of 30+ years of Dem control of the state.
Not sure why anyone stays in this state with all of the corrupt Dems and their masters da Illinois Public Sector unions calling all of the shots.
Vote with your feet as I did over 20+ years ago.
Stay and Pay
Leave and Save!!
Many chinese students come to the US because their communist government decides who will be educated and provides those funds accordingly. Students are required to return after graduation or their families could be subject to repercussions. The average chinese citizen’s disposable income is $6,200, in the US that number is closer to $65,000. That hardly supports the number of foreign students at the colleges with the highest tuition rates. Taxpayers in Illinois need to think about the leadership in Illinois that allows this to happen and continues to propagate communism’s reach – all for the mighty dollar and at the… Read more »
The Chinese students attend UIUC to be indoctrinated in Marxism.
IL should prioritize IL resident students over Chinese and other foreign students. IL needs to educate our own students first. Maybe U of I needs to trim their budget and stop exorbitant salaries for professors. IL students are taxpayers, but the foreign students are not. Prioritize IL students.
Show me the money
Economic Contribution: NAFSA indicates that international students (including a large percentage from China) contributed to a $43 billion total impact on the U.S. economy in 2024–2025.
Once again, the money hungry bureaucrats in IL raise tuitions to pay for bloated administrative departments and well compensated professors who teach minimal classes. IL students cannot afford IL college costs but foreign students can be milked for every penny. Public education for foreigners, not native Americans. Don’t see any reaction from teachers unions.
It is all about the money. They are paying top dollar for their education. The Chinese are now ahead of American in many main industries. Get use to the fact that hard work, good investment pays off. America wastes so much of its money making bad investment after bad investment.
Not so fast. If your connected to the CCP/ PLA the Chinese govt is paying the bills. Also, I’d rather live in Champaign than anywhere in China. That’s why the Chinese ‘students’ are here. Better question – Is this what a land grant college is for? State taxpayers and donors built the college over many decades to educate the children of citizens in IL, not to serve as some kind of education mill for communists from China.
All our kids went to Champaign, some continued on to the masters programs there. My wife and I sat through numerous college graduation ceremonies in the State Farm Center where you would hear 20 Chinese names called out in a row, then an American name. Had friends whose child went to Northwestern for engineering – same experience there. The country needs to clean house of the administrative elites at these schools. They are not for our kids or our country.
UIUC has one of the top Engineering Colleges in the US and graduates more PhDs in engineering than any other US university.
The Chinese nationals pay out of state tuition which helps UIUC balance its annual budget as State of Illinois financial support continues to decrease year after year.
Trust me they are not coming to Champaign-Urbana for the great weather or because they like eating corn.
And TAXPAYERS MONEY 💰 is funding the University while Illinois residents are not ACCEPTED!!
It is a tough conundrum for UIUC.
Admit fewer Chinese Nationals who pay out of state tuition and admit more Illinois residents who pay in state tuition and then not be able to balance their annual budget.
Not a conundrum for a MAGA person
Americans first will never be a practice of any blue state academic institution.
When I went to UIUC tuition and fees were in the bottom third of the BIG10. Only Wisconsin and Iowa had lower in state tuition.
Now UIUC is in the top third with only Northwestern and Penn State having higher tuition.
Not sure now with USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington in the BIG10.
USC being a private university is priced in the same range as Northwestern. UCLA is priced slightly lower than U of I.
Pensions paid first tells it like it is. Pensions will be paid. So much of the tuition goes to fund pensions that tuition costs have gone through the roof. Some of these Chinese students stay in America and work for the top Tech companies. The US home grown students are not able to produce the kind of work needed in today’s world. The Chinese students work hard and apply themselves. The US kids drink beer and smoke pot and play video games.
