President Barack Obama “argued he was doing a favor to the South Side by bringing development, as if development is something good, disregarding the shakeup that these places do to that area and of course the displacement of the most vulnerable households,” said John Betancur, a professor of urban planning and policy at the University of Illinois Chicago who has studied gentrification locally.
Obama would have been doing the city and neighborhood a favor if he had selected the former US Steel site as a place for the monument to himself. instead he has destroyed a historic park and will drive local, low income residents out of the area. Then again what do you expect from a guy who lives on Martha’s Vineyard.

An interesting point has surfaced re the fact that the silo isn’t really a presidential library, will probably hold very few papers, documents etc. from Obama’s tenure and therefore won’t be under the stewardship of the National Park Service. When the Harry S. Truman library recently was deemed to be beyond repair, it was promptly closed down and, I believe, demolished. I’m curious as to whether that will be the case re the lakefront monstrosity that is already falling apart.

Wow, didn’t anyone see this coming? Check to see if Obama is invested in a development corporation. It’s always about money, not people.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
