The legislation that created the Medical Debt Relief Program for the state – based on the Cook County program – was signed into law in July 2024. The state partnered with nonprofit Undue Medical Debt, formerly known as RIP Medical Debt, committing to provide $10 million in grants to pay off debts.
I thought Obama care made it illegal to not have insurance.

“Cook County officials also announced they plan to continue the program, despite no longer getting federal stimulus funds from the 2021 American Rescue Plan.”
I thought these costs were erased, Sean Reed. Why do the political animals need confiscated Federal taxpayer funds if these costs were simply dissolved?
No. These costs were transferred first to paying customers, then to taxpayers. Nothing is erased, except the curiosity and intellect of Useless Media typists like Mr. Reed who regurgitate DNC talking points instead of performing actual information gathering and reporting.

I’d like to see some real-life recipients of this largesse, people who supposedly owe all this money. If we (and I do mean you and me) are paying collection firms for debt they already determined is uncollectible, then it is those firms who are benefiting, not individuals. And who owns those companies? Let’s follow the thread here.

Some might need the help to get out from under catastrophic medical debt – because it does happen. But, ya know… I’ll bet that a big chunk of that $2.5B (billion with a B) was used to retire debt from people who don’t work or pay for any part of any healthcare for themselves or their family. The hapless tax payer gets screwed again.

They should focus on dismantling the disaster called obamacare and stop providing free medical care to illegals. Taxpayers will absorb this in higher rates and lose for the millionth time.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
