1st vertical farm in downtown office building in US now in Chicago’s Loop – ABC7 (Chicago)

Right now, they grow everything inside a 500-square-foot space in trays with a hydroponic system for drip watering that recirculates. There's no actual soil. It's a cotton-like material. And LED lights are a fine substitute for sunlight inside a 137-year-old building.

Oh good, more commie businesses ruining our once-beautiful downtown. What’s next? Probably wasting taxpayer dollars on bike lanes and street festivals. A disgrace.

Going from 500 square feet to over 1,000,000 is going to be a lot more expensive than anyone thinks. I see the taxpayer being screwed on this.

Correct. Since there’s no private money stupid enough to support this, you just know this boondoggle is using taxpayer money. Shameful.

Illinois has some of the best farmland in the country. This is a total waste of money.
