Plan would have state taxpayers provide $50M for ICE-impacted businesses – Center Square

SB 2810 provides that independently owned brick-and-mortar businesses with 25 or fewer employees as of September 9, 2025 would be eligible for the grants from a newly-created Small Business Restoration Fund. State Sen. Don DeWitte said similar grants were handed out during the COVID-19 pandemic and after businesses were affected by protests and looting following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Fed Up Taxpayer

It only took cooperation with ICE to avoid all of this, an agency that is law enforcement whether Illinois chooses to acknowledge that or not. Why do taxpayers foot the bill, again? No one in Illinois voted for this nonsense, dem or republican.

Businesses are losing money because of the SAFE-T act and because criminals are not held accountable. Their transference of blaming ICE and not Illinois policies for the declining business environment is predictable, yet disgusting. JB should just stand at the border with a bag of Illinois taxpayer money and hand it out to whoever comes along.
