Much of the routine trade and investment between China and America is entirely appropriate and in America’s interest. But inserting the Chinese Communist Party into America’s pay-to-play system and its economic development strategy isn’t just crossing a line. It’s a leap into an abyss of stupidity.
The narrative around the Bears is all the about “taxes” that will be coming, an obvious pain point for Illinois residents. They don’t talk about the loss of revenue and jobs associated with the development. It is almost as it they are teeing up residents for disappointment so that JB doesn’t have a Waterloo moment….
Illinois can’t afford the Bears – Get the hell out.
Yeah, ya know, I do not believe the survey called random people or enough random people to get a real read on the public. In talking with people about it in passing in the suburbs…it sure feels like Illinois Citizens in the collar counties (that appear to show high interest in the Bears on the survey Map) are more thinking like down state areas related to the interest in the Bears and spending more tax dollars on a stadium. Most have commented that “if the Bears want a new stadium – fine, just don’t raise my taxes (anywhere for anything)… Read more »
College kids know months in advance when finals are. Some prepare along the way and have no need for a mad scramble come the time. Others don’t and end up cramming under stress hoping they pull off a passing grade. Springfield has had years and is now in a huge hurry to cobble together an expensive half assed bill to keep a private company that hosts 8–10 events per season from moving to IN. If they pull it off they will brag about saving the Bears for IL. Nothing of the cost and future unintended consequences in property taxes will… Read more »
If Chicago wants it they can pay for it. Why do I h ave to pay a lot of my taxes to Chicago.
Hello Indiana Beats . Purely a business decision . Tired of Illinois games and rip-off
right on Brother…..
It would be interesting to know about the survey method. Did they phone people randomly, thus getting a sample of folks who answer calls from unknown numbers? Or had these folks already signed up to be surveyed, perhaps were compensated for their participation? Did they work from a list of registered voters, trying to find phone numbers for each? Or query people randomly on the street?
Interesting the article didn’t address the obvious Indiana advantage head on. No grifting from Chicago to move it to Indiana, because they will be cut out. Arlington Hts has to deal with Chicago alderman who think they deserve a cut of the action if the Bears bolt for another suburb. Why not include the total loss of revenue and jobs, and the all-important tax revenue, associated with the Bears leaving in their poll? Poll the taxpayers and ask if they have any idea of how much revenue will be lost. Then, take that poll again. Or watch that revenue walk… Read more »
Very few people south of Kankakee give a rip about a bunch of overpaid narcissists playing a kid’s game and certainly aren’t on board with subsidizing it.
I personally don’t care where they play. I for one am not paying those exorbitant prices for parking, seats, food and drinks when I can watch it at home in peace and quiet without some drunk fans around me.
I agree. Also, the older I get, the more depressed I feel about having spent so much of my time over the many years watching generally mediocre teams.
I think the mediocre Illinois professional sports teams have been due to stingy owners and scouts who aren’t too good at assessing talent.
Very informative study but not for the reasons they think. Why do so many people care where the bears play? Do you earn your living based upon game location? Are the bears paying you? If where the bears play is so important to you, you may want to re-think your priorities. Nonetheless, it’s those priorities and your thinking that make you perfect Chicagoans and Illinoisans. True useful idiots.
