Cahokia Mounds is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Landmark. The site is where tens of thousands of the Mississippian people once lived. Officials announced the closure in March 2022, anticipating a $5 million project to replace old systems and a weathered roof would take a year or more.
Pritzker can blabber all they want about the tourism industry but here we have a UNESCO world heritage site within our midst that seemingly gets ignored when the money gets sloshed around at assorted other causes and projects. Visitors to the large mound can be routinely seen from the highway touring the area as the site draws considerable public interest making me think that Illinois should be proud to host such a historical site but, as we can see, that apparently is not to be. while I recognize the adhominishness of my thoughts, but how is it oodles of money… Read more »
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
