State lawmakers: Donald Trump’s cuts broke Illinois’ budget. It’s time to make the wealthy pay to fix it. – Chicago Tribune*

State Reps. Nicolle Grasse and Kevin John Olickal, and state Sen. Rachel Ventura: "Long term, we need to move to an income tax system that requires the wealthiest to pay their fair share. But urgent action cannot wait for a constitutional fix. That’s why the Affordability and Tax Justice Coalition, a group of more than 40 state lawmakers, has put forward several targeted reforms that would generate the revenue Illinois needs to protect families — without asking working people to chip in one additional dollar.

They are correct…in their first sentence…”There’s a crisis unfolding at kitchen tables across Illinois”. They and the rest of their ilk, democrat politicians and the useful idiots that vote them into office, are the crisis.

Paraphrasing Vincent LaGuardia Gambini’s opening statement: “Everything else they said is bullshit”

That’s right. You Illinoisans need to make those “rich” people pay what’s fair. I suggest a graduated rate up to 50% and a reduction in the Illinois estate tax credit equivalent down to $100,000. After all, if you have assets worth more than $100,000, you are rich. Make all those people pay more. And while you’re at it, raise real estate taxes, sales taxes and the countless other tolls, fees and hidden taxes that Illinois has. And by all means, keep up the timeless Illinois tradition of raising taxes, with no detectable improvement in any government services. I’m sure you… Read more »

Anything coming out of Olickal’s mouth should be completely dismissed.

If I make 100k I pay $4,900 and someone making 1M is paying $49,000 sounds to me like people making more money pay more than their fair share already. Same (crappy) roads, same police, same fire protection, same schools but they probably aren’t even using them and send them to private ones, Unrealized capital gains will send everyone running to the border, taxing for money you don’t and may never see. Illinois spending has gone up (cumulatively) 44% under JB in his first two terms, Illinois CLEARLY doesn’t have a revenue problem but a VERY SERIOUS SPENDING PROBLEM. A bill… Read more »

You are already paying tax on unrealized capital gains. It’s called “The Property Tax”.

“Our schools are still vastly underfunded.” That statement alone immediately dissolves any appearance of credibility.

“All the while, some of the wealthiest corporations and individuals have been paying less than their fair share. These are the same corporations that passed along President Donald Trump’s unconstitutional tariffs to consumers, sticking families with the bill while raking in profits. So the proposed solution??? A 10% tax on digital advertising revenue for companies making more than $150 million from those ads would ensure those corporations contribute something meaningful back. So tariffs on companies that import goods ultimately raise costs to consumers but taxing corporations 10% won’t be passed on to consumers??? Always promising more spending and telling you… Read more »

You are totally correct but expecting an Illinois voter to recognize that fact is another story.

“So tariffs on companies that import goods ultimately raise costs to consumers but taxing corporations 10% won’t be passed on to consumers???” – I bet 9 out of 10 people would say the corporations are rich and can pay it and have no clue that it would get passed on. Sounds good to low IQ voters though.
