Chicago sues Airbnb, host over alleged illegal rentals – FOX32 (Chicago)

The lawsuit alleges the defendants operated short-term rentals that did not comply with Chicago's Shared Housing Ordinance. City officials said the ordinance, first approved in 2016 and strengthened in 2020, includes rules on registration, limits on the number of rental units in buildings and restrictions in some neighborhoods.

I’m sorry, but your apartment building is not a hotel. No, you cannot rent out units on AirBnB in the middle of my residential neighborhood. Zoning laws exist to property the quiet enjoyment of my property, and you cannot violate my rights to earn a couple of hundred extra dollars a month.

Desperate for funds for his CTU masters, Mayor Cliff Notes’ minions sued Airbnb and their local customer and property owner, absolutely in that order. These rules were not designed around affordability. They were designed so that Chicago political animals get their cut.
