The damage is done and irreversible at this point. IL has been stagnating for 45 years, Chicagoland’s service, financial and high tech manufacturing kept it relevant during the 80s and 90s but the 2000s are killing it. IL is stuck in 1930’s mindset coasting on legacy performance, the sun belt states have proven what works and will be the nexus of the future of the economy. It will take multiple generations to hit rock bottom, lose the ingrained regressive attitudes and start fresh. It took the south 100 years to recover from the civil war. Lets ditch the “Illinois Way” which is wasteful spending and more taxes. Being a sanctuary state doesn’t help matters either. It’s time to put on the big boy pants and do whats best for the citizens of Illinois. Cut the fat

The easiest way to do it for yourself is to leave the state. All the other answers are nothing but cheap talk, cuts rarely happen, increases almost always happen.
