Governor’s remarks on fatal ISP shooting draw criticism – Center Square

Rachel Tarrence, a 40-year-old mother of three from Maryville, was fatally shot by an Illinois State Police trooper after authorities found a vehicle reported stolen in East St. Louis. Investigators said Tarrence reversed into a squad car before accelerating forward, prompting one trooper to fire through the windshield.

The policeman in this case was white as was the deceased. There is no divide and conquer on this for Pritzker to lever to further his political goals. Had the deceased be Hispanic or black then he would have jumped right in with headlines galore along the way. One interesting aspect is that the State Trooper, previously employed as a municipal policeman, had been charged in two separate civil rights violation lawsuits where individuals claimed that they were “pulled them from their vehicles and body slammed them to the pavement.” The two separate cases were dismissed however it is “unclear… Read more »

People need to realize that the ISP aren’t a local police force neutered by progressive mayors and aldermen. As they demonstrated at the detention center, if they tell you to do something, do it or wind up on the ground in cuffs or worse depending on how far you want to push your luck. This used to be the case locally with county police as well and probably still is outside the “ collar counties “.
