Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. As for gender neutral language, English has made it nearly 2,000 years from the first Runic symbols of Old Saxon, through to Chaucer’s Middle English to about the 1960’s with no one, no one complaining about gender neutral language. Heck, gendered language goes back all the way to the first written Indo—European language, Hittite, and it’s basis, the reconstructed proto-language iPIE (Porto Indo-European) was also a gendered language.
