The legislation, approved with bipartisan support in a 45-7 vote, would recognize a Chicago principals and assistant principals union and put them across the table from senior district leadership for contract negotiations. The bill, if signed into law, would not allow a principals’ union to strike.
Has anyone seen the size of the principals pension benefits at a very young age?
It can be worth over $5 million, not too bad of a retirement. Thank all you taxpayers who haven’t been born yet that will pay for it.

I wonder why they would even need a bill. I don’t recall seeing anything in Amendment 1 that excluded principals from the same constitutional rights as other employees. The amendment clearly states “employees” which means any members of the administration should qualify.
Pass the bill and give them the rights to unionize or the principals will simply seek relief from the courts. Either way I would think this will happen.
Yup, under Amendment 1 any Illinois public sector employee can bargain as any individual and don’t need a union or collective signatory agreements. With all legal /negotiating/ bargaining fees on the taxpayers dime. While us private sec bozos can go pound sand as usual….equitable!!!
Huh??? How did I confuse spending with outcome? Please point to my words that made such a suggestion. More lies from old joey. Enjoy your welfare check Joe.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.

Once again you’ve got got your facts correct and drawn the wrong conclusion
Confusing principals and K thru 12 spending with an educational outcome.

Right, the bill seems superfluous. Principals don’t need permission from Chicago or CPS to organize anymore.
My prediction for next group of public sector professionals to organize: Cook County ASA’s
Don’t forget Judges…
And why not the law makers themselves…?
Is there anything that would prohibit it…?
By definition, principals are management — they need a union like Lori Lightfoot needs another ugly pantsuit.
