Illinois education officials keep trying to hide their failures behind excuse of “higher test standards” – Wirepoints
Illinois’ dismal education numbers – especially for minority students – are embarrassing to politicians and officials. But rather than admit there’s a problem with Illinois’ education system, they attack the state’s own standards for being “too high,” instead.
I’m going to probably be dismissed, but the USA needs SERIOUS criminal justice reform. This country locks up more people than any other on the planet. Even more than China. People enter the system only to become even more hardened and come out more violent and more bitter. My thoughts on what needs to change: ●ANY prosecutor (Federal to county) that convicts an innocent person should be prosecuted themselves with no less than 10 years in prison. Conviction of innocent person for murder, given death penalty? The prosecutor now gets put on trial with death penalty applied to him/her as… Read more »
You have it backwards. Locking up criminals reduces crime! I’d lock up as many criminals as I can and throw away the key.
You’re seeing the effects of this now in Illinois. Criminals are being released on no bail, or are having charges dropped, and they just go back out and commit crimes again.
What crime? Car jacking? I’m with you. Drugs? Nope. Prostitution? Nope. You’re not being specific on “crime”. Note, I was also talking about innocent people caught up in the system, but let’s get into the guilty for a second. Think about this question: WHY are they committing the crimes? Couple of points: A person is more likely to commit crimes if that person grows up in a violent crime ridden area. It’s a cycle. Fathers also play a role, and when the government locks up fathers, it creates future offenders in his children. Crime is also directly linked to the… Read more »
No one wants innocent people locked up. Cops or prosecutors that frame innocent people deserve to go to jail. As for the ‘why does this happen?’, well that’s a complicated, multi-facted issue that often goes directly back to gang culture that permeates every aspect of our criminal class. The easiest answer that doesn’t involve social workers delving in the psyche of cold-blooded gang sociopaths is to just lock them up. This current environment is just giving into the gang just like the cartels did in Mexico. The gangs are fully in charge now folks. It’s naive to suggest otherwise. People… Read more »
“People should absolutely be locked up for hard drugs and prostitution.” If two consenting adults choose to trade money for sex, it’s non of anyone’s business. Neither is what a person puts in their own body. Do you own your body, or does the government? Cartels are a result of a demand for drugs, while being outlawed. Arrest the johns? So, someone makes a stupid mistake, gets prison time/record, gets fired from job, which makes it more likely his kids will grow up without a father–how do you think that ends for just this “john” and his family? You think… Read more »
How does releasing violent criminals back into their violent neighborhoods fix anything? Do we seriously imagine that these men will somehow become the paternal influence that is needed in those areas? That is a liberal fantasy. Releasing violent criminals simply allows them to terrorize their communities. Anyone who resorts to violence needs to be kept away from society for a long time.
Decent people in poor neighborhoods are the ones who pay the cost of liberals living in a fantasy world. They are paying the price in blood every day.
It’s not working in Cook/County/Chicago either. The grand experiment pushed by Foxx, Evan’s and Dart has resulted in hundreds of felony suspects released with no or low bond on electronic monitoring who are now missing and have skipped court dates. Dozens have been released with no or low bail and have committed additional violent crimes and then released again and then re-offend again. Crazy policy from crazy politicians who seem to appease the lowest form of society while defaming the honest, taxpaying, law abiding crowd.
In Cook County, the honest taxpaying law abiding crowd is the minority.
