A sample of trans-genderism taught in Illinois 4th-grade classrooms – Wirepoints

By: Ted Dabrowski and John Klingner

Take a good look at the book recently read by a teacher to her 4th-grade students at my neighborhood public school in Wilmette. You’ll quickly understand why DEI, and trans-activism in particular, have become so objectionable and divisive, particularly in school settings. And why the backlash at the national level to remove such content from our schools, even among Democrats, has become so powerful.

The book that the Wilmette Central School teacher read out loud is called “It Feels Good to be Yourself.” The teacher begins by describing Ruthie, who at five years old determined that she was a he. Her younger brother was just three-and-a-half years old when he announced he was a he. Both kids inform their parents of the gender decisions they’ve made. The decisions are accepted without question.

The teacher reads on: “You might feel like a boy. You might feel like a girl. You might feel like both a boy and a girl – or like neither. You might feel like your gender changes from day to day or from year to year. Your feelings about gender are real. Listen to your heart.”

Really? Day to day? To ten-year-olds?

As if that wasn’t enough, the book adds this: Doctors and your parents looked at your “body” and just guessed at your gender when you were born. “Maybe they got it right, maybe they got it wrong.

It’s hard to reach any conclusion other than this one: This book is being read to 4th-graders only to create gender confusion among impressionable young minds.

Here is a link to a Youtube reading of the book (no relation to the 4th-grade teacher at Central). I encourage you to stick with the six minutes it takes to get through the video.

By any measure, the book’s views are extreme to an overwhelming share of Americans. Normalizing these ideas to little kids in a public school setting – that gender can change day to day and year to year, and that little kids have self-determination – is an extreme proposition. Such ideas don’t belong in our schools.

Not to mention that life is tough enough for children. They shouldn’t be forced to question their gender.

Books like this lead to a form of self-fulfilling prophecy. Repeat the ideas of trans-genderism often enough – especially at a young age – and of course some kids will inevitably become confused enough to believe it. As comedian/pundit Bill Maher recently put it, children are impressionable and very, very stupid.”

Tie all that up with social media, peer pressure and typical childhood rebellion and you have a growing problem – one that involves lifetime consequences. WSJ contributor Abigail Shrier has a whole book detailing the social contagion of transgenderism and the harm it’s done, in particular to girls.

*****************

Defenders of “It Feels Good to be Yourself” and the DEI movement in schools will say it simply creates awareness and invites inclusivity. The book does no harm, they claim, and anybody who opposes it is a trans-phobe and a bigot.

Tell that to the increasing number of Democrats speaking out against the trans movement. Common sense is making a comeback. Listen to Maher’s monologue, for example, and how harsh he is in his critique of the movement.

Politicians are starting to change their minds as well. Rahm Emanuel recently said…”I don’t want to hear another word about the locker room, I don’t want to hear another word about the bathroom. You better start focusing on the classroom,” he recently told a “Real Time” panel.

Though Emanuel doesn’t practice what he preaches, he’s right. Kids aren’t learning to read and do math anymore, which we’ve documented thoroughly. School districts are pushing social justice, activism and other woke stuff in place of basic literacy and numeracy.

************

There are many more serious problems this short book helps spawn: boys in girls bathrooms, boys in girls sports, the invasive cutting and reshaping of minors’ bodies, laws that block parent notification at schools, and more.

All of it requires serious pushback.

Fortunately, the federal government has created a portal for students, parents, teachers, and the broader community to report illegal discriminatory practices at institutions of learning. Their goal is to ensure “all students have access to meaningful learning free of divisive ideologies and indoctrination.”

And locally, a parent group called New Trier Neighbors, of which I am a board member, has gone even further, creating a new web-based transparency tool for parents, students, teachers and citizens to track local examples of questionable classroom content.

At ClassroomChamp.com, users can review assignments, surveys, readings, books, assembly materials, memos and teacher trainings — submitted by parents, educators, and students — presented “as is” so you can assess for yourself the quality of the materials. Materials are organized by school and also tagged by type and issue, including anti-Semitism, gender ideology and racial ideology.

If it proves helpful to the community to bring awareness to these issues, Classroom Champ can be expanded to cover school districts across the state.

***************

For sure there are parents in Illinois who disagree with our position above and will continue to support transgender activism. They are free to do so, but they have no right to impose those ideas in our public schools.

Statistic published today notes 28% of Americans of ages 18 – 25 demographic presently identify as LGBTQX. It certainly feels good to be yourself, so long as you conform to the trans-messaging given by mainstream media, educational instruction, and of course, rampant peer pressure to identify as something other than gender-normative.

The central teaching of “It Feels Good to be Yourself” (in the video at time 3:37 – 4:16) certainly helps define cultural Marxism: Man makes himself. There is no “nature.” I do not have a “sex” that anyone else can observe and determine. I have a only a “gender identity,” and that gender identity is whatever I feel and express it to be. The video of the reading of “It Feels Good to be Yourself” was posted to YouTube by “Dorothy S.,” evidently back in 2019. She has posted at least 15 children’s book readings, including “Superheroes are Everywhere,” by… Read more »

Culture war crap really matters to the 4th graders who were subjected to this abuse.

Yeah the abuse of telling kids they can feel loved no matter how they feel on the inside…. How dare they!

Telling children they can be loved is a good message. But that’s not the message being sold here. The message is quite obviously about various sexual identities, which has no place in a 4th grade classroom. These kids are only a couple of years past believing in Santa. Adult sexual concepts are well beyond their ability to understand, no matter how much you want to pretend this is only about love.

Most of the people promoting this are pedophiles. They should be in prison for life away from children, chemically neutered and pray to avoid their roasting eternity in hell. Whoever is thumbs-downing these comments will be roasting in Hell too.

The radical perverts promoting homosexuality+ should be drummed out of public life, and prosecuted by law.

Reporting after the fact is what got us here! If I’ve learned anything in life, small government is always better and they never fix what they’re supposed to. We need to have a positive attitude and flood the space with things that promote positive development and agency. This is how they got an edge on us. I can crank out 10 books a day with AI and ship them with print to order for virtually no cost!! It could be a good hustle for someone looking for extra $$. Parents buy this stuff too! These folks have over 350 titles… Read more »

The craziest thing about all of this, which I’m still wrapping my mind around, is that all of LGBTQIAP+ is completely astroturfed. And by astroturfed (a stupid DC insider term), I mean faked into existence by the government because there is little grassroots support. USAID, US Dept of Ed, and others, all went out of their way to fund this nonsense into the hundreds of billions, if not trillions of dollars. If you want more of something, have the government subsidize it. And subsidize it they did. Government spent ungodly amounts of money on this stuff and it of course… Read more »

Hey! the book does not say:

Doctors and your parents looked at your “body” and just guessed at your gender when you were born.
It says “they” – not doctors not parents. It refers to the child not being able to tell others who they believed themselves to be at the time – which is quite different from what you want people to read!!!!

Have you ever asked any kid under 18 to explain “gender” to you? Their answers will shock you and you will get bombarded with advanced social theory like fluidity, social constructs, social norms, inclusive solutions, etc. Frankly, they’re getting coerced and threatened if they don’t regurgitate it on demand. We’re sick of it.

Are you suggesting two wrongs make a right?
I’m not comfortable with 4th graders being the audience for this book in particular, but I am Not happy with poor communication – media that stretches the truth in order to get readership

I agree with the sentiment but this article is poorly written. Who says a teacher read this book to 4th graders? What exactly did this accuser say? Who is the teacher who read it to fourth graders? What school? When?

I’m guessing the person reading made the claim. She wouldn’t get clicks just reading a book to herself, would she?

Leftist Democrats wish to force homeschoolers to use this kind of material – that’s what they mean by ‘standards’.

This teacher is using children as props in a political game.

My grandson is in 4th grade. He and his classmates read “chapter books” like Willie Wonka. They are well past having a teacher read a book aloud in a singsong cadence.

This teacher carefully filmed her reading, making sure to enunciate every word. Maybe she could go viral when she posted it online! She was not trying to teach “inclusivity”. She was promoting herself and her ideas.

This is beyond despicable. The teacher should be fired immediately.

Ted, this article is weak and very late. Fighting back is not playing whack a mole after the damage is done. Fighting back is writing your own book for kids that attacks the clowns and schemers behind this garbage!!!! Matter of factly, everyone is writing books for kids except us! I’m on it and consistently encourage others to do the same. Lots of this stuff is sponsored by major corporations and given away! I’m looking at a book for 10 yr olds right now that promotes Asians and Pacific Islanders in STEM, because of course they’ve been mistreated and under… Read more »

I’ve found at least 45 titles on racism from this publisher alone. The amount of garbage circulating is mind boggling.

The problem is that no school district is going to buy your books or, even if free, allow them in their schools.

There’s private schooling, home schooling, conservative districts, etc. Submit alternative books and watch boards go on defense. I think you’re giving up too easily and underestimating the strength of the conservative base.

I am not saying that there will not be small victories but private schools have been infiltrated with the leftist garbage, including the Archdiocese of Chicago and the progressive private schools in the city and in Lake County. Conservative districts have been stopping this already, it’s the liberal hell holes that elect liberal idealogues where this mental disordered agenda has been allowed in and the conservatives have no sway.

How do we have no sway when 94% of the public is against Johnson and everything he stands for?

Your cherry picking one data point here. The city of Shitcago had 33% of voter turnout? Do you really think you can hold sway over the liberal suburban Chicago areas? DuPage County used to be solid red and it pretty much liberal hell right now.

Brandon recently disclosed that he won election by 27,000 votes, supposedly including 26,500 new voters who materialized ONLY AFTER primary election, who he identifies as “young voters”. Meaning CTU effectively recruited CPS seniors (and juniors who repeated a grade or two) to go out and vote for Brandon – mission accomplished.

We have no sway because Democrats truly believe that replacing one Democrat with another Democrat will make things better, as in replacing Rahm with Lori, and Lori with Brandon, and Brandon will be replaced by an avowed socialist…it’s the same idiots and morons voting Democrat every election. There’s just too many of them in Illinois. That’s why Illinois is the way it is. People want to blame the Republican Party – but it’s not the Party. Republicans are more popular now than at almost any point in my life. It’s the majority of the voters Illinois that are the problem.… Read more »

Name a school here in Chicago that’s actually not teaching this woke stuff.

Most of the well-regarded (expensive) Catholic schools in Chicago are woke too.
