Agency improves physician assistant license processing times – Center Square

A letter from IDFPR Secretary Mario Treto Jr. stated that the agency reduced the average processing time from 7.5 weeks in 2024 to 5.7 weeks in 2025; the average processing time for physician assistant license renewals is 24 hours. State lawmakers suggested last week that physician assistants were going to Iowa to get licensed due to long wait times in Illinois.

Basically a 2 week improvement? Disgraceful in the computer age. And while I’m at it, why aren’t licenses issued for multiple years? The licensing/renewal requirements in IL is all about money and paying off the lobbyists, not efficiency or for the licensees involved. I had to take an ethics training class, in person every year to renew my P&C license. It was the same class/content every stinkin’ year. Make this make sense. Been there, done that.

How about for nurses and nurse practitioners too? Delay in license issuance always worse during elections. Is the state pulling workers to campaigns, or is the process just that bad? Nurse practitioners have been driving to Springfield to get their licenses because of ridiculously long wait times. PAs will have to do the same.
