Quite a moment in the GOP convention: ‘Shut up, Gaetz… you don’t have to be an a**hole.’ – Wirepoints Quickpoint

Rep. Matt Gaetz was harassing former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy while CNN was trying to interview McCarthy. That’s when Richard Porter, Republican National Committeeman from Illinois, stepped in.

Shut up, Gaetz… you don’t have to be an a**hole,” said Porter.

Gaetz responded, “Dude,“I don’t know who you are.” Porter:

“It doesn’t f***ing matter who I am, don’t be an a**hole.”

Somebody on X caught it here:

Time and place for everything. Trying to interrupt a tv interview, or State of the Union address, deserves a pass. The same could be said for Pelosi tearing up the State of the Union speech on live tv. Just wish Richard Porter had the energy to drop a few F bombs about what’s been going on in Illinois.

Say what you want about Gaetz – Porter doesn’t seem like a likable guy at all here. And given how well the a Republican Party has done here (of course NOT), I’m not sure he’s the right person to lead it.

Totally disagree with you. This infighting amongst the Republicans is a huge problem and Gaetz is a ringleader. They need to have their battles behind closed doors, not in public like this. There was no reason for Gaetz to be an @$$hole here and he was 100% an @$$hole here.

That’s right, the convention is not the time or the place.

IMHO Conservatives need to rid itself of people like Gaetz and Greene. They are an embarrassment and harm a big tent conservative movement.

Gaetz and Greene are true conservatives. McCarthy and Porter are RINOs and never have been conservatives. America First!!!

Not sure I agree with getting rid of them as they have been principled and firm in the middle of all the lying, cheating, betrayals, and dishonesty of RINOS who are doing a disservice to the American people.

Rumors about Gates behavior in Florida raised a lot of questions about him.
Good friends with Joel Greenberg, Seminole County tax collector, who went to jail for some bad stuff.

I agree Mark, Gaetz is unhinged, but Richard Porter is a rino determined to get as many democrats elected in Illinois as possible.

You have to have good candidates to get elected. Where are the candidates?!

The good candidates never get the backing of the Illinois GOP, just the connected rinos of the Chicago machine which are pretty much democrats

Yes, he is a complete A-Hole, but the Republican leaders required effectuate change won’t be the ‘let’s all get along’ Mitch McConnell types of the yesteryear. And I don’t want them to be nice guys either. I want the biggest conservative pricks around to run the Republican government. The old RINO guard for 40 years has continuously compromised with Democrats trying to prove – to no one who cares – that they can ‘reach across the aisle’ while the ‘reach across the aisle’ Democrat is almost entirely extinct, and is forced to become Independent to avoid the ire of their… Read more »

I know you’re well read, and I often agree with you, but Mitch McConnell was the most effective Republic Senate Majority Leader of my lifetime. I’ll take him any day over a slime like Gaetz.

I’m not entirely sure about that. Sure, he made a virtually no-risk but really high reward move to not hold hearings on Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court. He also rammed through a great tax bill. He gets credit for those things. But he also stupidly held an impeachment hearing for Trump that was a spectacle in the days before Covid. He should have done what Schumer did to Cabinet member Mayorkas’s impeachment – dismissed it outright as not rising to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors. He also refused to give another round of stimulus – despite popular… Read more »

Maybe its his approach for calling out an a-hole rat f liar? A Uniparty member who would rather fleece and sell out our country?

Mark, if you think that, you’re the a-hole. Gaetz is a true conservative. McCarthy and Porter are RINOs. The House of Representatives and the country would be much better off with Gaetz as Speaker of the House.

Listen to yourself… “a-hole” really? People like you are precisely why we get dragged and lose elections! You want our country to turn hard right… be careful what you wish for.

Let’s say that you are correct, Gaetz is a true conservative, even though I don’t think he is. But we will go with your opinion for now. How does Gaetz acting like a j@goff help us? Not only doesn’t it help, it hurts. This country has mental disordered liberals on the far left, the moderate left, centrists/independents, the moderate right, conservatives and the extreme right. Not one of those groups has a majority in this country. If you want to get $hit done in this country you can’t push away the centrists/independents and expect to get conservative laws passed. Nothing… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
