When there are so so many foundering Illinois schools, with NO enrolled students who can perform at academic grade levels, then Illinois’ current teacher accreditation standards are TOO LOW. Standards are intended to be a qualitative measure, not a quantitative guarantee of warm bodies who will “teach”. Chicago Public School system employs many “teachers” who themselves failed to crack ACT score of 20+.

If it is so rigorous why are there so many lousy teachers? The kids are graduating but they can’t read!

Where have we heard this before? The test is too rigorous and doesn’t take into account all possible extenuating circumstances?

“Just take a couple of extra classes and become an accountant”? Maybe then they can whine about the CPA exam.

It isn’t a test. It’s a portfolio assessment that doesn’t reflect what it takes to appropriately manage a classroom or the mastery of content. It is poorly designed assessment that doesn’t measure what it is supposed to.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
