Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. How Americans are still living off the ‘bank of mom and dad’ in their 40s with ‘$25k-a-month allowances’ | Daily Mail Online
Earning just over 10 million a year, with a net worth of 4 billion, is all you really need to know about Illinois finances.
I suppose you’d be appalled to suppose it applies to DJT as well.
I think the point being missed here is the way he nonchalantly treats money…
I seriously question if he realizes the true value of money, since he’s always had plenty his entire life…
This goes directly to his position as Governor, and helps explain his sanctimonious bloviation…
He thinks of himself as Emperor or King of IL,
And if you don’t bow, or kiss the ring – off with your head…
And he wants to become President / King / Emperor…
Shocked if Pritzker’s claim of huge blackjack winnings in a short afternoon, which seems highly unlikely and mathematically impossible, doesn’t have the attention of the IRS and DOJ along with the gaming commission in Nevada. House of cards falls and no one in IL or the DNC can save Pritzker from the Feds.
Two peas in a pod controlled opposition here are having a mare. Only widens my eyes.
I want t see the video of him sitting at the table playing and who else is there. Also the receipts from the casino.
What a man of the people. The perfect democrat. Do any of you really believe that he is paying his fair share of taxes? I can give you a dissertation on how it’s done, but I can guarantee you that none of the taxes he proposes for you are being paid by him. Socialism/communism at its best. Yeah, tax the rich. What a laugh. A real opiate for the masses. This fat Nepo baby has a phalanx of tax lawyers to make sure he doesn’t pay those taxes. Do you think the people employed by the state can even begin… Read more »
It’s a lie. Why? The amount of money and time it would take to amass winnings like that using typical casino odds. blogged about it at jeffreycarter.substack.com
Your piece is posted.
The house always wins.
Yup. But sometimes you do walk away a winner and you need to claim those winnings on your taxes. Who knows how many times he walked away a loser.
No matter where is, he always walks away a loser.
They call high rollers in Vegas whales. Seems appropriate here
It’s refreshing to see a Pritzker headline for doing something besides whining about Trump.
PPF sounds a bit inauthentic to me.
It would be very interesting to find out who were the other players at that table.
Hmm.. a person favorable to gambling in IL goes to a casino not under the auspices of IL authorities and defies the odds by winning big, big money.. in a casino with ties to IL. Anyone that has ever watched a “ mob movie “ knows full well that casinos are a great way to launder large sums of money. It beats removing toilets to cheat the tax man.
Perhaps you missed the part where he won in Las Vegas. But sure, go ahead and speculate that something nefarious is going on even though you have absolutely zero facts. That’s the new world we live in. If you don’t like someone just accuse them of a baseless crime. Dems did it with Trump and his tax returns so no reason for the other side not to act like idiots.
PPF, even without speculating on the nefarious, I think many people will find this very troubling, and they should. I would hope that anybody who is the steward of $4 billion that they didn’t earn would feel a social responsibility to spend their time and money doing something more worthwhile than playing high roller in Vegas. Pritzker claims to be a progressive populist. My God, what nonsense, he’s being a pig. Then he gives the winnings to charity, but only after facing criticism. I think wealth should be seen as an obligation and a responsibility to humankind, especially for unearned… Read more »
Seems to me your point of view won’t be taken kindly on this site in particular where so many repeatedly cite opinions quite to the contrary. On the other hand you’re not likely going to get that degree of negative as surely I would if I had said it. You are the “big kahuna” here, and it’s my bet many who would be encouraged to stomp me royally will think twice before doing so to you. Power has its perks. Me, I’m mud, whose opinion clearly doesn’t count with most readers, but you are the king or at least clearly… Read more »
Agreed, and it goes beyond me or this site. “Ratings are seldom absolutes but given in relationship to the rater’s ideals.” Far too many people today judge opinions based on prior perception of who is offering the opinion, contributing mightily to all the division. I don’t always agree with you, but I appreciate your persistence here and respect your perspective.
Sorry he didn’t spend HIS money the way YOU and others see fit.
That’s quite an answer to defend a supposed progressive populist.
I’m not defending Pritzker. I am pointing out you and others are making baseless accusations. I am pointing out it’s none of your business how someone else spends their OWN money. What type of position is that for someone like yourself?
Also, curious if people made baseless accusations against Ted, would you allow those comments to remain? I know this website is not connected with Ted’s campaign so I’m sure you would allow those fraudulent claims to stand.
I guess you missed the part where I stated “ a casino not under the auspices of IL “ meaning a casino out of state that could have ties ( that means owned/ operated by the same concern) to IL. Please slow down .
Yes, you are speculating without any proof. Clearly making up baseless accusations is the new standard of this partisan website.
Funny, the “News Media” hasn’t asked that question !!!! Especially when Pritzker has OK’d six new Illinois casinos since his election and opened a new luxury Hotel in El Salvador (?). But while the real manufacturers and companies are leaving the state faster then you can say “adios”, the new illinois economy looks like it’s being run by “Biff Tannen”!
Does anyone see the skillset for him to win that much at cards? Seems fishy.
How could anyone here make that assessment? Just because you don’t like his politics doesn’t mean he can’t get lucky and win at gambling. Some of you will obsess over anything the man does. Reminds me of TDS but for Illinois Republicans. Shows both sides are capable of becoming deranged.
Illinois Gov. Pritzker Wins $1.4 Million Gambling After Blackjack Run In Vegas | OutKick
Tens of thousands of dollars were bet routinely over a period of time to generate those winnings. And then the odds are extremely rare that you would actually win that much.
Yup. I am getting calls from people who claim to know the game who say this stinks to high heaven. They are basically saying just that about winning $1.4M at blackjack. I don’t have an opinion on the answers yet, but the questions seem very appropriate to me.
Well that’s evidence. lol
I’ve been to Vegas several times and typically bet 25 a hand. Doubling down and splitting where appropriate and without emotion. I’ve gone home at least over 10 times with more $2500 in winnings. So a guy that bets 10k to 20k a hand can definitely walk with 1.4 million if he got hot.
Who should I trust with the right math on this? You or the Points & Figures author, who was formerly an options trader, board of directors at CME, CNBC commentator and a U of C business school grad?
Clearly you will trust the information that aligns with your bias. It’s good to know people can post negative and completely baseless lies about Ted and you will let those stand here.
Over ten times you made over 100X on $25 hands, eh? Man, you should be running those pensions you say should be paid in full.
Mark – kudos to your respect, patience and tolerance. Way more than you are getting in return. Maybe he believes in unicorns too.
Yes, kudos for allowing someone to provide an opinion that doesn’t align with baseless accusations. What an amazing standard to fairness. I mean how absurd? Someone that expects evidence before accusing someone of a crime. Way to go Mark.
It’s called pressing your bets when you’re winning moron. Someone who can bet 10k or 20k a hand will also press bets when winning. They also lose money at times. Are you that dense?
Yes Mark, over 10 times. You are so intellectually lazy you decide that’s impossible instead of asking how many times I’ve been there or how many times I’ve lost money on different trips. You didn’t ask how I increased my unit amount based on conditions. In the words of Ted Lasso, be curious, not judgmental. You might just learn a thing or two.
Also, I don’t say pensions should be paid in full but rather pensions WILL be paid first.
“There is no way Pritzker made $1.4 million playing blackjack on one trip to Las Vegas. It’s statistically and mathematically impossible.” https://jeffreycarter.substack.com/p/speaking-of-gambling?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=462801&post_id=176416902&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=true&r=ddkw3&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email. The author is a former options floor trader who knows math.
Who cares Mark. Why allow baseless accusations on your site? It’s a distraction from what’s really wrong with the state. If you have evidence of wrong doing then present it. Otherwise you are no different than the left that claims Elon was involved with cutting the budget because he was “stealing” from the treasury. People throw these wild accusations around with no evidence and I thought you were better. Just proves you are another partisan hack even though you try to claim otherwise.
Baseless? Read the article. And watch for professional players to be saying the same.
Then provide evidence. You have a theory without any evidence. Provide proof.
I guess that’s your new standard now that you are part of Ted’s campaign. I’m sure you will allow the same type of baseless accusations from others that are hurled at Ted?
Get off it. Here’s what I said: “I don’t have an opinion on the answers yet, but the questions seem very appropriate to me.” That’s obviously sound.
I have no formal role in Ted’s campaign though I am a volunteer. I expect a true avalanche of baseless allegations.
It’s likely. Almost literally everybody—credible or not—has a pet theory whom to blame for every social problem, how each ought to be solved and the evil motives of people who think otherwise.
