Black Chicagoans Weigh In At City’s 1st Reparations Town Hall: ‘This Didn’t Happen That Long Ago’ – Block Club Chicago

Vetress Boyce of the city’s Reparations Task Force suggested that reparations could include expanded educational programs in Chicago Public Schools exploring the history of racism in the United States; full tuition coverage for Black college students in Chicago; down-payment assistance for Black home buyers in Chicago to alleviate the impacts of redlining; and high-quality health care for all.

Perhaps I’m eligible for some reparations. As a youngster I was in servitude. “Go mow the lawn”. “Go wash the car”. “Go to the store, here’s the list”. “Change the tv channel”.”Go take the dog for a walk”. “ Clean your room”. “Take out the trash”. There were additional tasks I was forced to perform during my time in servitude and I think I deserve reparations.

People across Illinois should pay close attention to this situation. Currently in New York City the new Mayor is pushing for what is being called a “Racial Equity Plan” that will provided higher taxes for the whites to be distributed to the Black and Latin communities and is indicative of where we very well be headed in the future in certain States. Not that it needs one but this is just another reason to get out of Illinois. Government social engineering never works.

Mr. Beavers, who is quoted extensively in the article, recounts his experiences seeing the south side decline. I saw the same decline but from the perspective of someone being displaced by the sudden wave that turned what were white middle-class neighborhoods into black middle-class neighborhoods. I saw crime, falling property values and a loss of community. My grandparents, who were among the last to leave their beloved neighborhood, suffered a serious loss in the sales price of their home and thus had less available to them in retirement. They didn’t seek reparations or blame anyone, my grandfather simply worked for… Read more »

Just read this…don’t unless you want to get angry. Pathetic reach for an undeserved pay day. These folks are claiming that their parents picked cotton. Slavery ended 161 years ago – there is some math that does not work. The United States have stepped forward in a big way for decades. There is nothing a white man can do that a black man can’t in this country. These people are looking for a check and another free ride.
