Considering that Lightfoot is a can-kicker, she did put up some reasonable resistance to the CTU giant leeches. After all that spending, there won’t be a penny for building repair or new books or computers so if some kid needs a computer they better check out Best Buy on black friday. The special ed people are “sickened” by the deal but hey–the teachers were about to lose their health insurance.

This is true and I think it’s lost somewhere in the mix. Lightfoot doesn’t have the political capital to tell them No deal, no way, considering that she’s only been in office a few months and the CTU was still supported by the residents (at least, that’s how the press was gaslighting us). But you’re right, the blowback from this will come down the road when the city doesn’t have any money for anything else or major cuts in the city she blames directly on the CTU contract. Giving the CTU one more penny of an increase in salary or benefits was a terrible deal, since the city is already ridiculously in debt.
