More students could qualify for in-state tuition at Illinois colleges and universities under a bill that will soon be sent to Gov. JB Pritzker. House Bill 5093 would loosen one of the requirements for paying in-state tuition by making it available to students who attended Illinois high schools for at least three years, even if they established residency outside the state before enrolling.
Why even have the 3 year residency requirement? Why do Biden’s border jumping foreigners pay the discounted rate while the Chinese student visa holders pay full price? Isn’t this residency based discrimination?
On top of this flagrantly illegal law, filling our universities with illegal immigrants is the quickest way to destroy whatever little academic integrity remain with the state universities, which have suffered declining enrollment for a decade and a half, with the quality of the admitted students down significantly, and half of all college students leaving the state. Pathetic.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
