Even more evidence Illinois can thank the federal government’s covid bailouts for its budget bonanza – Wirepoints
Some Illinois lawmakers continue to deny that covid aid and other federal stimulus bailed the state out of its fiscal mess. But a look at past and projected revenues from COGFA shows just how much the bailouts blew out the state’s revenues. And now that they’re over, how much harder it will be for Illinois revenues to grow.
In addition to epic, quite a few of Madison’s jobs are video game related. There’s a couple of studios there. I know someone in the industry. They basically recruit from California and elsewhere and sell them on the economic benefits and lifestyle. They don’t have to work nearly as crazy hours, and the pay, while less, buys them a nice house and all the newest toys with no more than a 20 minute commute to work. Madison is a small city but because of the capital and the university, it has many of the amenities of larger, more prestigious cities.… Read more »
When I decided to flee Illinois, I didn’t seriously consider Wisconsin. First, it’s too cold. Second, I don’t want to risk ending up in another potential liberal state. Third, there are better alternatives from a tax standpoint. That being said, I would take Wisconsin over Illinois in a second. They even have better football teams.
Green Bay, and basically the entire state outside of Madistan/Milwaukee is solidly red these days. I know this because flying the American Flag is an acceptable alternative to the MAGA yard sign, and there are American Flags everywhere up there all over the state. Unlike here in IL, where a visitor is more likely to see a Mexican Flag or Rainbow Flag flying on one’s property, or even worse, the Hate yard signs that proclaim “Hate is not welcome here” or the “we’re glad you’re our neighbor” in Arabic (of all languages). No, I’m sorry progressives, you’re NOT glad that… Read more »
Debtsor, as you know, “progressivism” (Leftism, Gnosticism, there are a dozen synonyms) is a religion. Whatever else we can say about religion, it is not subject to (1) reason or (2) argumentation. People believe what they believe, and when the collective’s beliefs get far enough off Sanity Island, an entire civilization can be destroyed (see Ancient Greece, the Ancient Western Roman Empire, the Spanish Empire, the Dutch Empire, the Mayans, the Aztecs, the British Empire, and yes, the American Empire.) We are well along in the decline and cratering of what was once Norman Rockwell’s America. History neither pauses nor… Read more »
Meanwhile, right across the border Madison’s kicken are ass, #1 in attracking tech jobs in midwest, Minneapolis is #2. https://madison.com/wsj/business/madison-tops-list-to-grow-tech-jobs-in-the-midwest/article_420d33da-a5d4-53d8-b543-9f090a9927f8.html
While there are many reasons for this named problem one is soaring mortgage payments. The “how much down and how much a month club” face annual increases in their mortgage payments based upon higher property taxes that are included in their monthly mortgage payment. Those that are informed are beginning to get informed can see the handwriting on the wall; buying in Illinois is a way to invest in higher monthly payments. Something has to adjust and a lowered housing price amounts to lower payments that make up for the future risks and like it or not, many are not… Read more »
Democrats can’t blame Republicans but they’ll find a way to blame Rauner
Go to Capital Fax and read the comments, they blame him for everything. Half of them are clueless the other half are spouting talking points.
And nearly all of them are posting comments on the taxpayers dime.
So what? Sports betting is the future!
Since politicians have decided to monetize people’s vices, I can’t wait until, when the swag (taxes) from helping people gamble and smoke their way to destruction are inadequate, Pritzger (or his crime-boss successors) propose state-run brothels.
After all, as long as the state runs it, it won’t hurt anyone.
