Chicago Columbus statue protest: Local Italian Americans, other leaders call for peace, threaten ‘war’ in Little Italy’s Arrigo Park – ABC7 (Chicago)

The Italian American Human Relations Foundation of Chicago also responded to the protest, saying in part "This was the work of evil minded people. They have been fueled by an educational system too lax in its reliance on a poor curriculum re the education of the legacy of Columbus, and abetted by the majority of the media who refuse to question the baseless revisionist history of the Columbus saga."

Cristoffa Corombo’s statue belongs in Chicago’s Norwood Park or Edison Park, both home to many Italian Americans. ?

Christoffa Corombo is the real name of Christopher Columbus. ?

In 1933, the statue should have been placed in Columbus Park, in Chicago’s Austin community then home to many Italians (and Irish too). ?

As a thought experiment, let’s head down to Marquette Park and take down the MLK monument. What kind of reaction would be expected?

The grant park advisory council has empowered a committee of experts to evaluate grant park monuments. Sickening.

The comment from La Spata is the most ignorant thing I’ve heard in some time. These people are filled with hate and intolerance, and lack a very basic understanding of history. My best friend in grade school was a first generation Italian. His Dad and Grandpa worked their butts off as stone and cement workers. They did side jobs in the neighborhoods on weekends to make extra money. They saved and invested, and did well. They were devout Catholics and loved America. Thank you to ALL Italian-Americans, who came to America to work and not stick their hands out like… Read more »

And note well these statues do not so much celebrate Columbus and the Discovery of the Americas , but the contributions and successes of Italian Americans . The timing of the statues original erection fits four square with their coming out of the shadows to face off against the WASP bigots.” I believe in America”

All these politicians seem to be supporting the protesters. They want the protesters to remove the statues so they don’t have to go on record supporting it. Weak politicians, speak up, state your position. Mindless media, ask them what their position is on removing the statue.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
