Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson allies push $12 billion new tax package, including wealth and income taxes – Crain’s*

A photo of Chicago's city flag hanging outside City Hall in the Loop Authors of the proposal, which also includes a tax on vacant high-end rental apartments, say they’re not fronting for Johnson and suggest they rather are trying to hold his feet to the fire and push him to stand by his campaign promises in a way they believe former Mayor Lori Lightfoot did not.

First actions of new Mayor reveal his governance style:

1) Create three new “deputy mayor” executive staff divisions, creating dozens more payroll jobs for minions;

2) Attend virtue-signaling photo ops, smile big for the cameras, and wave!

Mayor Johnson will be figure-head mayor, polite way of saying Brandon is puppet of Preckwinkle, and governance will emanate from Cook County side of building.

I like the idea of the city tax. Corporations will flee Chicago as soon as they can. This is the best thing to happen to the floundering Chicago office tower market. Imagine out of state remote workers finding out that they have to pay a 3.5% tax simply because their employer leases office space in Chicago. LOL

Come big economic depression for Chicago. Time for 50% unemployment, mass homelessness, long lines to community food banks and misery that matches the 1930s
