Simply being present in the U.S. without proper documents is considered a civil matter. This can lead to deportation proceedings and fines, but not criminal charges.
Re-entering the U.S. after having been previously deported. This is a felony offense, while a first-time improper entry is a misdemeanor.

But there are consequences to speeding.
We don’t just ignore it, or raise the speed limit to accommodate the speeders. And we certainly don’t pay them for speeding.
We have laws that determine the consequences for illegal entry. Deportation back to the country of origin.
There are consequences to being here illegaly. You get deported. What percentage of speeders get tickets when they speed?

Nice straw man argument. And to answer your question, speeding can be a crime. In Illinois if you are speeding 35MPH over the limit it can be considered a misdemeanor punishable up to 12 months in prison. If combined with other serious offenses it can also be a felony.
Over 35. How about when you speed 10 over? Still illegal, right?
