From 2013 to 2023, Chicago’s tech sector added 106,000 direct tech jobs, according to the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. This represents about 8 percent of the city’s workforce. The tech sector has also created 147,000 multiplier jobs. Illinois’ information sector has added 5,800 jobs in the past 12 months, leading the nation.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
