Chicago passes 500 homicides, on track for one of the most violent years in decades – Chicago Tribune

Despite the high number of shootings weekend after weekend, police Supt. David Brown said homicides are actually down by about 50% since he sent the teams into neighborhoods the end of July. Shootings are down 18% over the last six weeks, compared with the six weeks before the teams were activated.
