Alice Costas, a teacher at Northside Prep High School, said she had a student who didn’t show up to class until November because he didn’t have a bus route. Costas has “little faith in this year’s plan” as CPS continues to offer “the same false compromises” like monthly stipends, she said.
A high school student who can’t find a way to school with all the bus and train transportation in Chicago? If s/he can’t be chauffeured, s/he simply doesn’t go?
What the heck are we raising? Apparently big children, not young adults.

A not-unimportant side effect of this shortage is that it is almost impossible to book a regular field trip (museum, performance, etc.) for any class. CPS schools are on staggered start/end times to allow for each bus to service multiple routes. My school has a late start. I wanted to book a trip last year. Pickup at 10am? OK. But we had to be back by 1:00 pm. With traffic/travel time, we would get 1.5 hours max at our destination. Not worth it, especially at $250-$400 per bus.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
