Chicago Tribune’s union demands more diversity in its newsroom – Wirepoints Quickpoint

The Chicago Tribune Guild last week went public with contract demands that the Chicago Tribune’s owner, Alden Capital, agree to more minority hiring. The Guild is the union for journalists at the Tribune and its community publications.

On Twitter the Guild wrote, “Diversity matters in newsrooms…. We’re working to bargain a contract that fosters diversity, but they have fought hard to block and stall on many efforts we’ve made to make our newsroom better.”

The Tribune doesn’t look like Chicago, the Guild wrote, and asked what that means for the city. “It means we’re less plugged into certain communities. It means we miss essential stories. It means we aren’t serving our city as well as we could. That’s unacceptable. Chicago deserves better,” they wrote.

The guild asked for letters to Alden supporting its demands. “We’re demanding you change…. Stop fighting us on contract proposals that will build a fair and equitable workplace able to robustly cover our city. Let Alden & Anstandig [Alden’s lawyer] know you’re with us by sending them a letter here.”

A page on the website of the umbrella organization, The News Guild, includes much of the same material. Journalists and other workers at the Chicago Sun-Times, The Reader and many other publications around the country are also under that umbrella. Nearly all are that I am familiar with are left-leaning. See the list here for yourself.

Diversity of thought?

The Guild certainly doesn’t want diversity in thought and opinions considering they helped get rid of all the conservative writers like Kass. No diversity in political coverage or opinions there.

How the Trib manages to stay in business baffles me. I can’t believe that many people would fritter their money away on that rag.

Deep state propaganda money. “A vast, military style campaign.” Illinois is the front line.

Let the “new” diverse hires learn to become
Line-o Type operators, wait can’t do that no jobs, how about pressmen, wait no jobs,
Hiedelberg press repair, wait no jobs.
Let the union people do what they do best,
“ sit on their asses all day”, plenty of jobs

The Guild complains the Tribune isn’t connected with communities, is missing essential stories and is not serving the city as well as it could, yet the Tribune has been publishing since 1847. Well now, the apparent lack of coverage and their whining further justifies my canceled subscription. This is all just woke BS.

History has shown publications prefer toemploypeople who can read and write. Conclusion should be obvious.

Honestly, could anyone tell the difference between st, trib, wbez, wttw, blockclub,, etc?? They’re all the same. All the writers are could be interchangeable libs? ZERO conservative columnist. One would think w tanking readership they’d change or at lease include a wp or ipi piece once in a while.

Then it seems increasingly you got st and others filling up a lot of space w pieces by Illinois Answers Project (bga), Injustice Watch, etc on the cheep. These all seem to be written by young folks, kids out of college, which seems a great way to get started. But begs the question—-are these kids getting taken advantage?? I’ll bet they’re not in guild/union

The mayor also doesn’t look like Chicago, so they threw her out. Maybe there’s hope . . .

The last 5 remaining subscribers to the trip. gave this a vigorous thumbs up…

They then admitted that they mostly use the paper to line the kitty litter boxes & bird cages…

Simply fire the white writers and replace with immigrant people of color.
Simple solution for the problem. White employees you got what your union (guild) wanted for you.

Makes sense to me. Everyone in Chicago knows white people caused all the problems. Heck, even the remaining white people seem to believe it.

Why not hire Lori? You’d kill 2 birds with one stone that way. All they need is a transvestite and their diversity score will be a 10 out of 10.

They had gone off the deep end and were losing subscribers. Are they actually coming back? Crains and I block each other on Twitter.

But the best writer hands down in Chicago in my book is Johnathan Bylik at Cook County Record. And Cook County Record overall is fantastic

They removed commenting and I believe it was because of all the negative Hinz comments, not that he didn’t deserve them.

In defense of Hinz, if you email him a lot of times he’ll get back to you. Most of the reporters no longer list thier emails…..to protect them from nut job like me😖

Hinz searched through my old twitter posts, and declared I was a fascist, because I linked to a story describing how Franco aided people escaping the Nazi’s, saving maybe 50,000 Jewish people.

Just a dope. Not sure why you would want a response from him.

Still recall Hinz repeating Rickey Hendon’s wacky claims that Bill Brady was a racist. This when Bill and Rickey were, up to that time, pretty close friends, and Hendon calling Brady to pre-apologize saying ‘it’s just politics’.

BIll hung up on him

Hinz gave it no scrutiny. Just repeated the ridiculous claims verbatim.

The way the Trib is on the skids, they should feel lucky to have jobs…
