“Claytons’ Law” calls for english requirement, citizenship verification for Illinois licenses – WAND (Decatur)

"Claytons' Law" comes in the wake of the recent deaths of Coles County Board Member Mike Clayton and his wife Gail Clayton. Edwin Pacheco-Meza, who is not in the country legally according to ICE, is accused of causing the crash and faces several charges including reckless homicide and aggravated DUI.

DUI is what caused this problem, not that he was illegal. If he had been legal and DUI same end result. Bars make money overserving patrons all the time. Nothing to do in small town Illinois but to drink, and lots of people do just that. Decatur has 280 to 350 DUI arrests every year. Same is true of many towns in Illinois.

It’s about time. Only citizens and legal migrants should have drivers licenses. Being able to speak and read English should be a requirement in order for drivers to read traffic signs. This is for public safety.

Only Third World countries have no official language. The result is a Tower of Babel where far too much time is wasted and money spent trying to accommodate everyone and accomplish anything.
