Nice to see what appears to be a comprehensive compilation, but almost every item requires an explanation. Also, what’s this “$4.9 million to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), an $214.7 million increase.”
The explanation is that the majority wanted to spend money on these items. In some cases they wanted to spend more than before and in others they wanted to spend less. They based this spending on what they believe their constituents wanted. If they didn’t follow the will of their voters they risk getting voted out so it was in their best interest to please these voters.
I guess when I said “explanation” I should have said “detailed description.” But I still don’t know how $4.9 million could be an increase of $214.78 million, perhaps a proofreader could have been worthwhile.
Gotcha. I agree that it’s poorly written. I believe that 4.9 million is a specific line item increase within IDOT’s budget out of the total budget increase for IDOT of 214.78. You would need to dig into IDOTs budget to see where each of these increases are coming from..

Fantastic simple to understand budget overview!!!…why doesn’t press simply provide this simple list or something similar??
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
