Cook County is among the many places nationwide testing no-strings cash as part of the social safety net – WBEZ (Chicago)

Toni Preckwinkle, president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, says she hopes to prove basic income works so that it could someday go nationwide.Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle thinks cash aid should be a permanent part of the social safety net; she notes that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Black Panthers called for guaranteed income. So, briefly, did President Richard Nixon. “The federal government is really the only entity that has the resources to do this on the mass scale that it needs to be done,” she said.

Good ole Taxwinkle! Always ready to give more unearned income to her folks at the cost of others. Put her on the “ entitlement is spelled poc” train along with Raggedy and the other grifters.

Toni’s another genius espousing the objectives of the Black Panthers, just like Brando. I’m going to share the secret sauce on how to become financially independent. Get a job, work hard, take on more responsibility, live beneath your means. Don’t drink, or drink in moderation. Buy a used car. You get the idea. Sitting around on the couch waiting for Uncle Sammy to send you a check is a terrible way to go through life. Does Toni really care about the people?

I was told as a young working class man “There are 24 hrs in the day, and 7 days in a week. Get to work.”

Living off the dole often pays just enough to keep the illiterate CPS graduates with no life skills at home. That’s why they don’t work. Working some crappy dead-end job during off-hours, paying for child care, paying 25% interest for an overpriced used Nissan Sentra….Yeah, I’d rather party and hustle on the side too. Importing 10,000,000 new illegal immigrants who will do those jobs for even less money as they cram 10 people in to a cockroach infested 2 bedroom apartment isn’t helping the situation.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
