Could Congestion Pricing Pay Off for Chicago? – Bloomberg

Chicago leaders have discussed following Manhattan’s lead in tolling roads to ease traffic. But a Chicago-style version of New York’s policy might look very different.

Before instituting higher congestion tolls on 294, IL needs to institute tolls on the Edens/Kennedy. Northbound should include the Dan Ryan/Edens. Then, if they still insist on congestion tolls on 294, they should be increased on eastbound exits only. The CTA doesn’t cover the whole Northshore/Lake County so they could partner with Pace/Metra for park and ride lots in and out of the city, to the Howard CTA stop or to the Skokie Swift line with reduced cost transfers. Tired of living in the NW burbs and paying for Chicago commuters to drive free.

Ever notice how there are no tolls on the Edens as you head up to the North Shore? Not. A. Single. One. Hmmmm….

Nite Cap,

I used to live in Detroit and there isn’t a toll road in the entire state of Michigan. Yes, that could be your lived experience in Illinois too.

A congestion tax in a city where commercial real estate is in free fall due to historically low occupancy rates? The ideological brain rot of these people knows no bounds.

The politicians could not care less about congestion. Their only interest in this is to be able to engineer a new tax so that they can keep the graft going. Next, they will tax you for breathing the air and there will be a premium on you breathing in “polluted” air because you are a bigger risk to need medical care and be a drain on the healthcare system.

Sure tax the he… out of the people driving into Chicago, even the companies can’t move out of the state then can at least move out of the city. Great idea!
