CPS board president faces scrutiny over request for taxpayer-funded car and driver – FOX32 (Chicago)

The estimated cost includes $76,000 for the vehicle and $78,000 for a full-time driver, who CPS officials note would likely have significant downtime given the board's meeting schedule of 2–3 times per month.

CPS is not in the education business. It is in the business of providing jobs, benefits and pensions for adults. Education is on the bottom of the list of things to do.

The gall of these CPS people to take a paid part time job for a failing school district that is all but bankrupt and then demand a Ford Expedition and a driver that will cost the failed school district $160K annually and of course the driver will be a CPS employee with benefits and pension. The arrogance of their perceived self importance…is stunning.

Sure, why not. Maybe an office and full time administrative assistant? By Illinois State law, school board members should not be compensated except for legitimate expenses. Talk about gaming the system! SMH

Would this be considered a taxable benefit to him? Be interesting to see if the would pay the federal taxes if it is.

Look on the bright side
If he gets the same kind of drivers that the mayor has, they will be able to collect revenue from all the red light cameras that catch them. And collect revenue from all the speeding cameras that will catch them as well.

Like many appointed to positions they are unsuitable for, this one walks in the door demanding this and that in an attempt to appear important. We usually find out the hard way that all their bravado is really a facade for their inadequacies.

Gosh, I’d a thought a school board president would’ve learned to drive decades ago.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
